CARBOHYDRATES

 Glycemic index and load

Why?

Because unfortunately, to lose weight, it's commonly believed that it's necessary to eliminate the notorious carbohydrates from our diet.

In reality, this is not the case, our body needs all the macronutrients, and as is often said, carbohydrates are the fuel of our body.

So what we need to pay attention to is precisely the glycemic or the speed with which a specific food raises the blood sugar, causing the so-called glycemic peak.

The action of two hormones mainly mediates the blood sugar regulation system: insulin and glucagon.

When large amounts of insulin are released into the circulation, the blood sugar drops rapidly and falls below normal levels. The sudden drop in blood sugar is picked up by the body, which increases the secretion of glucagon. This hormone intervenes rapidly by stimulating the sense of hunger to bring blood sugar levels back to normal.

A virtuous circle is thus created, and most of the glucose introduced into the cells ends up being transformed into fat.

So the advice is not to eliminate carbohydrates but to choose those with a low/medium glycemic index and above all to eat in a balanced way, starting from the main meal, or BREAKFAST.
